Marshall is building a laboratory that fits on a countertop. Total Analysis is a biosurveillance company, and its Helios-1 platform reads the molecular fingerprint of a single swab, screening for multiple pathogens at once where a rapid test checks one target. A Detroit-born bioanalytical chemist, Marshall graduated from Cooley High School, earned a chemistry degree at Wayne State and a doctorate at Nebraska, and has published more than 25 research articles across 15 years in the field. He founded the company after his grandfather contracted a hospital-acquired infection. Backed by a $295,000 NSF SBIR Phase I award, Total Analysis is headquartered at Newlab at Michigan Central with laboratory operations at MI-HQ in Ann Arbor, and is targeting early 2027 for Helios-1.
